The Vortex F5 is by far the best high speed carver I have used, and I have used several over a period of 30 years of carving anything from egg shells, glass, metal and now just mostly carving wood. I have only been using it for approximately 2 weeks, but during those 2 weeks I am carving every day. I have an ebay business where I sell hand carved gun grips, and during my busy season I am carving and selling up to 3 and 4 pair of wood handgun grips every day and sometimes I am carving 7 days a week. It has the most power of any of the 3 other ones I have used in the past, light weight, don’t have to worry about an oiling system, and quiet. Doesn’t bog down, burs easy to change. I am so happy with the Vortex F5 that I am in the process of purchasing a second one because I carve in my shop and have a room in my house also, and I won’t have to carry it from place to place. Thanks for developing such a great high speed handpiece.

I wish there were more stars then 5 I could award to this tool. I have 2 PowerCarvers, 1 Paragraphics carver and 1 TurboCarver and although I used these tools for several years there is absolutely no comparison to the Vortex. If you are even thinking about the purchase of a power carver, STOP and purchase the Vortex. I have only used my Vortex for a couple hours so I can not speak for the longevity of the tool, but it will perform circles around all the others. You will not be disappointed! And as a bonus these are nice, friendly people to deal with. They appear to be devoted to putting out the best power carver on the market and providing fast friendly service (and have been successful at both).

It was a long wait but worth it. I am primarily a wood carver and this new carver is more powerful than the Powercrafters I have been using for several years. I also like the compact size of the unit. Looking forward to getting a router base for it. Jim McLain

Well, I am so pleased to write this review! I got the carver in the mail today and have been carving for the last 3 hours. This tool is nothing less than amazing. More than worth the wait. There are two things that immediately set it apart from the power carver (I have both models) that I have been using for about 3 years now. The first is the POWER and torque. My goodness this tool has some guts! The second is the amount of air put out at the end of the tool around the bur. Never again will I need to stop carving to blow or vacuum sawdust away from the carving. Frankly there are lots of differences. The compact size and lightness of the tool are surprising given the power it puts out. You seriously need to be constantly aware when this carver is running because it is so smooth and quiet that you can easily forget that it running (apart from the sound of air). My carver was bench tested spinning at 471,000 RPM @ 38 PSI, The speed is one thing, but the power (torque) is really noticeable as well. It is not my intention to bash the power carver, but that is what I have to base my assessment of the new F5 on. My evaluation is not a technical one, but rather the seat of the pants feeling I get using this new carver. There is no comparison!!! Enough about my first impressions of the F5, I really want to express my appreciation to the owners of Sculpting Studio for taking on the daunting task of developing a uniquely new carver specifically for carvers, not just another re-hashed dental tool. So people, if you have been holding back on pulling the trigger on buying a brand new tool, go for it! You won’t be disappointed. In this day and age of wanting immediate gratification, I am so thankful that I waited. Thank you Larry and Debbi for your perseverance, I know it has been an arduous process, but thank you for not compromising on your dream. Well done.
